Mark Kern Nutrition Scientist
Mark Kern completed BS and MS degrees in Nutrition Science from Indiana University and his PhD in Foods and Nutrition at Purdue University where he blended foods and nutrition with exercise science through the Interdepartmental Nutrition Program along with the Department of Health, Kinesiology and Leisure Studies. He currently serves as Professor and Coordinator of Foods and Nutrition in the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences at San Diego State University. Mark typically teaches Fundamentals of Nutrition and Nutrition for Athletes. His research has been funded by several food commodity boards, the United States Department of Agriculture, the American Heart Association and other funding agencies and commonly addresses the impacts of numerous functional foods such as fruits, nuts and minimally refined sweeteners on cardiometabolic disease risk factors, appetite and obesity, bone health, exercise metabolism and sport performance.
