Our speaker on May 7th was Alise Shafer Ivey, Founder and Executive Director of Pedagogical Institute of Los Angeles (PILAglobal), and retired Founder/Director of Evergreen Community School in Santa Monica, CA.   She works privately with schools throughout the US and abroad including China, New Zealand, Korea, Nepal, Japan, Australia, and Peru. In her role as Executive Director of PILAglobal, she creates and supports education spaces for young displaced children in hot spots around the world.  Her presentation introduced us to the refugee early education program, The Nest: providing education for children impacted by displacement and poverty.  We were particularly interested in PILAglobal's four "Nests" serving children in the Tijuana area.  We thank Alise for her time and expertise.
