Power of Love Foundation

Suresh Subramanian is co-founder of Power of Love (POL) Foundation, a San Diego based 501 (c) 3 charitable organization. POL Foundation was started in 2001 with the goal of building and delivering scalable innovations to combat the effects of the HIV epidemic. POL started work in a slum in Mbita, Kenya in 2001 and, in 2002, expanded its work to the Matero slum in Lusaka, Zambia. Since then, POL has added an urban slum in Bengaluru, India and two rural districts in Bihar, India, where it recently launched a large maternal health program. Co-founder Alka Subramanian, Ph.D., continues to run these projects full time.

Suresh presently also serves as Vice President at Illumina, Inc., the worldwide leader in genome sequencing. Prior to this, Suresh served as a Principal Investigator at the Harvard School of Public Health, leading a multi-university research project on the impact of climate change on slums. He has also served in senior roles at Hewlett Packard (HP) for 14 years, most recently as Vice President and General Manager, Healthcare.

Suresh is an electrical engineer with an MS in Urban Health from MIT, an MPH in Global Health from Harvard and a Ph.D. in Diffusion of Innovations from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Suresh and his wife Alka are recent empty nesters and keen to keep it that way for at least a little while.
