Saturday, April 29 is the global Rotarians at Work Day.  It happens the last Saturday in April each year, and was started in 2006 as a joint effort between two Rotary Districts (one in the United States and one in Mexico).   Since then, each year Clubs around the world identify a hands-on project that all members can participate in to help their local community.  Point Loma Rotary Club's project will be held at Famosa Slough Park.  Members interested in more details and in signing up contact President Jim or Leon Scales.

The park  is located on both sides of West Point Loma Blvd, extending north to Interstate 8, and extending south to the bottom of Catalina Blvd.  The project will include hiking trail restoration (some rock moving, shrub clipping, etc.), sign maintenance, large debris removal, general repairs and beautification, to both ends of Famosa Slough Park and all around.  There will be no weeding.  Famosa Slough is one of Pt. Loma's most important landmarks, and Leon has arranged to have bird experts (including the head of SD Audobon Society) to point out birds.  In addition to the physical efforts, members can assist by helping provide coffee in the morning, maybe with some pastries, and lunch at the completion of the project around noon.

This is another opportunity to practice Rotary's goal of "Service Above Self" and we'd like all members to sign up and get out and participate.  Send an email and indicate if you intend to participate.

Yours in Rotary, Jim
