San Diego Rotary District Governor Janis Kurtz
Annual District Governor Visit

Janice was born in Berkeley, California but spent most of her youth in Houston, Texas. Her husband, Matt was born in Leipzig, Germany and immigrated to the U.S. with his family when he was ten years of age.  He resided in Massachusetts and graduated from Andover Phillips Academy.  Janice and Matt met at Baylor College of Medicine and have been married 26 years.  They have two daughters, ages 22 and 24 years.  

Janice earned her B.A. in chemistry from Austin College, Ph.D. in human genetics at Stanford University, and M.D. from University of Arizona, with post-graduate training in internal medicine.  Her professional career has included medical practice, academic and industrial biomedical research, product and software development, research management and pharmaceutical medicine.  She is now retired to a life of service to her community, family and Rotary. 

Janice is a member of the Rotary Club of Del Mar.  She was a GSE Team Leader to District 9200 (East Africa) in February, 2010.  She has served District 5340 in several capacities.  Her other service activities include mentoring teenage students, founding and/or serving on several educational foundations in her community, The San Diego Women’s Foundation and Founding Board Member of Team Mates Mentoring San Diego. 

In their free time, Janice and Matt enjoy running, weight lifting, wine tasting, boogie boarding, traveling, reading, wine tasting, hiking, biking, yoga, swimming, snow skiing and….wine tasting.
